The Practice Nurse Clinical Education Program is made up of larger, lecture style seminars, and smaller breakout sessions and practical, hands-on workshops, allowing you the freedom to put together the program you want.

Q&A: Future of the Practice Nurse Role & New Incentives      
Your chance to have your questions answered about where APNA sees the role of Primary health care Nurses going, what the new PN incentive funding is going to look like and what impact it will have on your own role. Submit your questions before the conference.

Parenting the Newborn - Common Issues & Challenges    
This session will update you on various issues and challenges your patients may face with new babies. It will provide information on responsive sleep and settling, breastfeeding, maternal and childhood issues.      

Adult Immunisation Update       
Immunisation has become an essential element of preventative health. This session provides an overview of which adults are recommended to be vaccinated with influenza and pneumococcal vaccine and also provides data into who is actually getting immunised. Tools to improve adult immunisation within medical practices will also be discussed.   

Ophthalmology (Part 1 & 2)
Part 1 of this session will cover the basics of ocular anatomy and physiology, including vision testing, ocular examination and triaging common acute eye conditions in general practice.
Part 2 will be a practical component focusing on management of acute eye conditions. Delegates will have the opportunity to practice lid eversion, eye padding/shielding and an irrigation setup.

Practice Nurses have an increasingly critical role in caring for patients with Hepatitis B. This session provides an overview of what you need to know and the opportunity to workshop ideas for how your practice can more effectively care for the growing numbers of people living with Hepatitis B.

This session will cover the basic principles of weight management in general practice including how to motivate patients to implement long-term changes in their life.

CareSearch: Supporting Nurses in Primary Health Care
This session will explore the Nurses [HUB], online palliative care information specifically written to support nurses. This includes clinical information, links to general practice and consumer information, resources and newsletters to support evidence based practice, and education resources.   

Alcohol & Other Drug Education: Interactive Techniques & Practical Strategies  
This session will focus on interactive techniques and strategies you can implement to further educate patients and families regarding alcohol and other drug issues. You will receive interactive demonstrations of how certain techniques and strategies can be implemented and receive further information about where support services can be found.

Influenza: The Virus, The Disease & An Insight into The Intradermal Route for Flu Vaccination
Influenza is a vaccine-preventable disease which can lead to serious complications including pneumonia and death. The severity of influenza disease depends on several factors such as virus structure, age of infected person, underling diseases and individual’s immunity. The national immunization program (NIP) allows free access to eligible persons while healthy adults are not eligible for NIP.
This session sheds a light on various aspects of influenza such as virus strains, compares seasonal and pandemic, how to differentiate common cold from influenza based on symptoms followed by an insight into the role of antivirals and the intradermal route for flu vaccination.

Prostate Cancer Screening in General Practice
Prostate cancer was the leading cause of cancer and the second most common cause of cancer death for Victorian men in 2006. Prostate cancer is therefore an important men's health issue. This workshop will look at the current evidence regarding prostate cancer screening and provide practical advice on what to advise patients in regards to prostate cancer screening.

This presentation will explore the benefits of and provide training on the intradermal influenza vaccine. Involves monitoring and recognition of symptoms, communication, critical incident leadership as well as management and ongoing first aid maintenance until the arrival of ambulance paramedics or medical staff.
